Mattrbld runs locally in your browser and all data is stored there after a project was imported. If you keep seeing the onboarding screen or find that your projects are missing after you return to your Mattrbld dashboard, this might mean that your browser isn’t properly persisting data.

For example, this can be the case if you were using Mattrbld in an incognito or private window. Or it could be that your browser is otherwise configured to delete all local data when it is closed.

While you can keep importing a Mattrbld project endlessly via an import link or manually go through the onboarding every time you’d like to change something on your site, this can quickly become cumbersome. So here are some ways you can ensure Mattrbld can work properly on your device.

Always Use Mattrbld in a Regular Tab

If possible, you should always use Mattrbld in a regular browser tab or window. Mattrbld works best in Chromium-based web browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and others, but Safari and Firefox should work as well. Please also ensure that your device has enough free storage and that JavaScript is enabled.

Exempt Mattrbld from Automatic Data Clearing

Some users might have their browsers configured to delete all browsing data when closed, regardless of whether they were using an incognito or private window. In this case, please exempt Mattrbld from this behaviour in your browser’s preferences. If you have any extensions installed that may block access to the browsers local storage features, for example an ad blocker, kindly allow Mattrbld access to browser storage through the extension’s preferences.

Install the PWA

The best way to use Mattrbld is through its progressive web application, PWA for short. If you are using Mattrbld in a Chromium-based browser, you should have been prompted to install the app at some point, but you can always do so via the option in the URL toolbar of your browser.

On Safari (macOS and iOS / iPadOS), Mattrbld can be installed by clicking the “share” option and selecting “Add to dock” (macOS) or “Add to home screen” (iOS / iPadOS).

This will launch and run Mattrbld in its own window, and some browsers might allow different settings for installed PWAs, such as how data can be stored and which extensions are activated.

If the other options in this article are not suitable to your requirements, you can make your life a little bit easier by bookmarking the page that opens after you click on an import link. This way, even if all local data gets cleared, you won’t have to go through the onboarding process each time.

Mattrbld expects the project data to be stored on the device after an initial import to deliver good performance. Reimporting it fully every time you want to change something can take time for bigger projects and puts strain on the CORS proxy server as well as your bandwidth.

Conclusion

In order for Mattrbld to work, a project and some settings have to be stored locally in your browser. If Mattrbld doesn’t find an imported project, it automatically falls back to the onboarding process. If you keep seeing the onboarding screen whenever you visit Mattrbld to edit content, your browser is likely not configured correctly to allow Mattrbld to persistently store data on your machine, or might be running in an incognito or private mode, which clears data once the browser is closed.
